Person 1   I love to shop for a Christmas tree.

They look so green and nice to me.

All except that skinny one there.

It looks like a dog that's lost it's hair.

I will take this one, it's pretty by far.

Please put it in my father's car.

PERSON 2   I shop for a Christmas tree every year.

It fills the house with Christmas cheer.

Look at that one, so shaky and lean.

It looks like it's turning brown instead of green.

So I will take this one, it has a good shape.

So please tie it with a little tape.

PERSON 3   Oh! Buy this one for me Dad!

And look at that one isn't it sad.

No one will want that one. It is too bad.

FATHER   I want a tree short and fat.

One that is as high as my hat.

But not that one over there.

It looks so funny, it would make people stare.

2 BOYS   We want a tree full and tall.

We want it to fill a big hall.

But not that one. It's much too small.

We wouldn't want that one at all.

TREE   Oh! If only someone could really see

How beautiful I can really be.

For that person, I could really shine.

Oh! If someone would say, "Doesn't he look fine?"

PERSON 4 TEENAGE BOY   I want the best tree in the place.

It has to be good, it must be the ace.

But not that one, it's such a disgrace.

PERSON 5 MOTHER WITH 2 CHILDREN   Well, there are only a few trees here,

I will pick one, have no fear.

I wouldn't want that one, it's so brown.

Not even if it was the last one in town.

Oh dear! Let's go down the street.

This tree shopping is killing my feet.

PERSON 6   I want the prettiest tree in town.

It must be bright green, short, and round.

Here it is, I have found it at last.

It's the prettiest tree I have passed!

It's so full and so green.

It's the prettiest tree I have ever seen.

TREE   She wants me. She said I was pretty.

For her I will be the prettiest tree in the city.

I will sparkle and twinkle,

And with garlands, I will glow. (TREE LIGHTS UP)

Because someone wants me.

I heard her say so.

I never knew I was beautiful until she told me.

Now I am a pretty tree,

But maybe my beauty only she can see.
