Sailing

by John J. King

Sailing is where I'd rather be;

To challenge the wind and the sea.

I can feel the rolling motion

Of the beautiful blue ocean.

I can feel the power of every wave,

And have the serenity that I crave.

I can sail alone and without end,

With only the fickle wind for my friend.

Sleep comes easy at the end of day,

As my boat rests in Salem Bay.

When I hear the halyards tapping on the mast;

They sound like wind chimes made of glass.

This is the music that lulls me to sleep,

As my boat rests on the ocean so deep.

Yes, sailing is where I would rather be,

 Challenging the wind and the sea.

But, when the ocean starts to roar,

I would rather be sitting on the shore.
