There is a ship that I'll never forget.
I will walk her decks again with all sails set.
Shenandoah is a ship made very strong,
From oak and pine she's
One hundred and eight feet long.
Her masts are raked strong, and true,
They hum like bees when the wind blows through,
This beautiful windjammer is made to last,
No plastic or chrome, and very little glass.
The three jibs pull from the bow sprit,
Like a motor with a hundred horses in it.
Duck is the material used for the sail
Strong enough to withstand the strongest gale.
Captain Douglas is at the wheel,
His face is chiseled from granite,
And his nerves tempered like steel.
Around the mast is a neat fife rail,
With a belaying pin to control each sail.
The square topsails catch the lightest breeze
Even back up the ship when you please.
The decks are washed with hose and brush,
Then breakfast is served without ceremony or rush
The winds help decide which bay
Will be her mooring at the end of day.
She glides through the warm blue water.
Smooth and pretty as Neptune's daughter.
The most beautiful windjammer that sails the sea,
Will again sail with her captain, crew and me.
