Theater Row
By John KIng
This was on Brodway in lawrence ma.
From the twentys to the sixtys.
Five theaters were on one side of the street
and one was on the other side.
What happeded to the good old shows,
that lit up broadway
called theater row ?
What thrill and excitement it had,
When most of the movies were happy,
not sad.
The lines on satuarday
were usually long.
And movies sometimes introduced
a new song.
When the curtin went up,
we were spellbound.
And we sat thru the movie ,
with out a sound.
We fell in love with the leading lady;
even if her life was a little bit shady,
Do couples hold hands
like we used to?
And steel a kiss before
the movie was thru?
Then go home humming a new song,
or whistling it loud clear and strong.
Remember what was comming
in the previews,
and last weeks sports,
and the Patha news?
Also the glossy picturs that hung
on the walls?
Showing handsome actors,
and hollywood dolls.
Most actors could either sing
or dance,
And left all the girls in a trance.
One movie a week was
all we could see.
than a hot fudge sunday for
my girl and me.
And all that for about,
three thirty three.
What was the names of the theaters
that you can remember?
The Palace and the Broadway
were the best.
The Morden the Strand the Victorier
made up the rest
The total was ten I think!
The Star was on broadway
near park street.
And the Premier was on essex st.
One block east from Broadway.
The Warner was at the end of
Lawrence st.
The Capital was on Common street
near Jackson st
And the Centeral was
east of jackson st,
on st.
.
