I Am A Smart Cat
by John J. King

I don't use a spoon or a straw,
And I can't eat with my paws.

But, my tongue is very rough,
And that brings up my food
quick enough.

When I raise my back,
 and start to hiss;
It's just to scare away big dogs,
 that look like this.

I have long and very soft fur;
Pat me and you'll hear me purr.

I lick myself to keep clean;
And I scratch when I get mean.

All that I can say is "meow,"
That means, please, eat or now.

I can climb fast with my claws,
To keep out of big dog's jaws.

When my tail is quivering
Tall and straight ,

It means I'm happy to see you,
Even if you are a little late.

They say I have nine lives,
But, that isn't really true.

I have one wonderful life,
Just like you.
so take good care of me
and you will see,
what a good friend i will be!

There's one thing that I
forgot to mention.
I'm fond of you when
my tail wiggles
And stands at attention.
